Position Overview:
As the Plant Operator at our facility in Moose Jaw, SK, you will be accountable to the Production Supervisor to provide Operational Excellence and be responsible for hands-on operational duties including operating machinery, providing customer service and support, and maintaining the facility and grounds for the safe and efficient operation of a grain and/or crop inputs facility.
Principal Accountabilities:
80% - Plant Operation and Risk management - Engage with the operations team to operate plant equipment on a daily basis; follow operator care principles and procedures to operate equipment safely and efficiently to minimize or prevent injuries, property loss and environmental damage; ensure plant and yard are clean and safe for customers and employees; perform minor mechanical maintenance which may include assisting on-site contractors; receive (unloading, grading, moisture testing), bin, blend and ship grain to the required specifications; assist in the meshing of buying and shipping programs by working closely with the Plant Manager, Production Supervisor and carriers (rail or truck); consistently meet all rail car and truck loading requirements; blend and ship fertilizer by operating custom application equipment and work in the pesticide and seed warehouses to ensure that customers receive the products and services they require in an efficient and timely manner; assist the Plant management in managing the location grain and/or crop inputs inventory by following existing controls to minimize inventory losses
20% - Safety Compliance - Participate in Provincial/Federal regulatory and Cargill compliance training sessions and programs; participate in regular plant inspections and monthly safety meetings to review procedures, housekeeping, and safety awareness issues; keep current with training to handle dangerous goods as per the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and additional safety training programs including WHMIS, confined space, forklift, etc; participate in training in NH3 procedures and in the handling of NH3 emergencies; participate in training to acquire and maintain knowledge on operator care principles to operate plant equipment safely and effectively
