Qualifications:

Essential:

  •  Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science (Engineering) degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba (APEGM) with a focus on mechanical engineering.  Candidates who are professional engineers in other jurisdictions and immediately able to register as a P. Eng. with APEGM prior to commencing employment will also be considered.
  •  Demonstrated experience as a consulting engineer, with a focus on mechanical engineering, including experience reviewing technical drawings for accuracy and completeness.
  •  Demonstrated experience supervising, managing, and leading a group of professional-level staff, including engineers and technical experts.
  •  Demonstrated experience as a project manager related to construction project management.
  •  Strong working knowledge of all codes, standards, and engineering principles pertinent to engineering design and construction.
  •  Demonstrated experience with project budgeting, including estimating costs, tracking expenses, forecasting, and analysis to achieve savings.
  •  Demonstrated ability to assign and direct work of staff, consultants, contractors, other government departments, and the general public.
  •  Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate highly technical items to a non-technical audience as well as strong written communication skills, including the ability to write concise and complete reports.
  •  Strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under pressure, with tight and often competing deadlines.
  •  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  •  Proficiency in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), MS Project, energy analysis, and AutoCad2010.

Desired:
 Experience managing staff in a unionized environment.
 Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
 LEED AP certified.

Conditions of Employment:
 Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
 Possess and maintain a valid membership to practice as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba (APEGM).
 Valid Full Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle which and be used for work purposes
 The ability to travel throughout the Province of Manitoba by way of vehicle and aircraft, including small aircraft.  Travel may include occasional overnight stays in rural and remote locations.

Duties:
Reporting to the Director of Professional Services, the Manager of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is responsible to supervise, manage, and lead staff through the processes of project delivery for the Mechanical & Electrical Engineering programs. These programs will set the standard for Manitoba Housing and also provide in-house consulting services to the department. The manager will lead a team of professionals and subject matter experts in mechanical, electrical & maintenance engineering.
