This posting is for one full time temporary position with a duration lasting up to 11 months

If so consider this temporary Accounts Receivable Accounting Assistant position. You will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge of accounting principles and practices to complete the Accounts Receivable cycle process and perform customer account reconciliations. This will include:
- Producing customer invoices and statements
- Checking/reviewing the completeness/accuracy of a variety of financial records and documents including invoices, credit memos, payment remittance documents, customer statements and reports
- Preparing detailed customer account reconciliations including charges, adjustments, mail returns, payments, NSF cheques, and refunds
- Posting billing information, adjustments, and journal entries to customer and related Business Area accounts
- Ensuring adequate supporting documentation is collected and maintained
- Reviewing and analyzing customer accounts and responding to customer inquiries and resolving disputed invoices
- Following up on collection of delinquent customer accounts including communicating with customers, collection agencies and providing customer status reports to operating business areas
- Recommending bad debt write-off and allowance for doubtful accounts provision
- Assisting in preparing year-end accounts receivable statements
- Researching and collecting billing information through variety of databases and agencies
- Performing other related duties as required
Qualifications:
As the successful candidate, you will possess the following qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized accounting certificate
- A minimum of one (1) year of accounting experience including accounts receivable experience
- Basic working knowledge of computer based financial systems, procurement spreadsheets, database and other related business applications commonly used in the delivery of financial services. SAP experience would be considered an asset
- Working knowledge of collection processes for accounts receivable applications
- Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office. Word processing, spreadsheet applications, Google Gmail and Docs is required
- Basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP, FOIP and GST
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, accurately under tight deadlines and process high volumes of information
- Ability to contribute as a positive team player in a customer focused service environment and towards continuous improvements
- Strong communication skills applying courtesy, positive problem-solving and respect when administering established policies and practices
- Applicants will be required to participate in job specific testing
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program
Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 013, $24.734 - $31.041 (Hourly). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton
