Business Controller
Sandvik Mining (formerly Cubex) is an industry-leading drilling solutions provider focused on design and manufacturing of a wide range of underground in-the-hole (ITH), and geo-technical drilling equipment. They currently have an opening for a Business Controller at their Winnipeg, MB location.
The role:
In this key role, the Business Controller will be responsible for tracking the company's financial activities for the Winnipeg office. Responsible for directing the financial plans of the business to align with market demands as well as the Site Managers plans for the site (including Capital Expenditures, long range planning, etc.). This position is also responsible for overseeing the accounting department and developing the accounting team.
Key Performance Areas:
- Prepare or direct preparation of all financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Monitor financial activities and details such as reserve levels to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met (ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations is maintained)
- Assist in month-end close process (ie review all journal entries, allocations, etc.). Review monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained. Produce accurate and timely financial reports including variance analysis to the Site Manager, local Management Team, and to the corporate office
- Prepare reforecast incorporating historical results and future assumptions
- Maintain fixed asset documentation and records, submit to Shared Services Finance so that depreciation schedules can be completed monthly
- Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective internal controls
- Prepare financial information so that outside CPA firm can complete tax returns
- Supervise the employees performing financial reporting, accounting, billing, and collections.
- Develop the finance/ accounting department team members- provide positive healthy work environment and encourage team to grow and develop and partner with the site as a whole
- Participate in special projects on an as needed basis
Your Profile:
- Professional designation required (CGA, CMA, CA) or the equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in Business or Financial/Accounting required. Master's degree in Business or Accounting/ Financial Management strongly preferred.
- 10-15 years of experience progressive accounting background, must have 2-5 years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge and understanding of standard cost accounting, accrual based accounting, organizational auditing, and fixed asset accounting
- Continually looking for gains/ savings
