We are seeking a motivated and experienced Importer and Customs Specialist to join our Purchasing team based in our office in Vernon, BC. The Importer and Customs handles all aspects of the customs and border administration. Further, this person will be responsible for freight forwarding of specific transactions. Finally, this person will liaise with pricing administrators and buyers to ensure our inventory costs accurately reflect the landed costs applicable with imported product.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Examine, match and verify the accuracy of customs documents, invoices and receipts
  • File adjustments/drawbacks with CBSA
  • Manage compliance and minimize exposure to monetary penalties.
  • Compliance verification and audit with CBSA
  • Perform tariff classification reviews to ensure goods are properly classified
  • Assist buyers with product classification, customs related administration and other complex shipments
  • Secure and maintain all the necessary Customs documents in electronic format.
  • Stay well informed of developments related to customs compliance issues
  • Organize specific international shipments to get product from the supplier to various Kal Tire locations, our customers or other final points of distribution.
  • Handles all other related freight forwarding activities such as commissioning international carriers, determining landed costs and preparing appropriate documentation.
  • Advise management on trade policy issues that may affect buying decisions and program timing
  • Primary contact for all day-to-day import activities.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
2-5 years related experience in international trade compliance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working experience in supply chain management
In depth understanding of the CSBA environment
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Capability to quickly learn other applications such as PeopleSoft

EDUCATION:
CCS Designation or Bachelor’s degree in related field

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional Travel
Overtime as required
