Function:Responsible for maintaining production in the Preparation Department as well as co-ordinating with the other departments.Expectations of the Preparation Operator:
- Full knowledge of and compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Full knowledge of and compliance with related Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Full knowledge of and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures in Preparation.
- Operate equipment safely to ensure proper material preparation for the solvent extraction plant and to ensure proper pellet quality to the meal silos. This will ensure product quality and volume as determined by the Operations Manager, Crush Supervisor and Quality Control Manager.
- Ensure that equipment is kept clean and in good working order to achieve highest efficiency.
- Review operations with previous shift operator and supervisor.
- Check operations continually and record readings on daily log sheet every 2 hours.
- Check flakers, clean and adjust as necessary to ensure that all seed is flaked to the prescribed thickness.
- Check and record raw material moistures 2 times per shift.
- Take representative samples of incoming seed, cooled cake and pellets for laboratory analysis.
- Ensure that the oil sent to EOF is in spec.
- Properly maintain equipment as per Supervisors instructions..
- Must clean up according to operator clean up duties.
- Perform minor maintenance on equipment when time allows.
- Perform any other related duties as required.
- Must be on time for each shift and stay over until replaced by the next operator.
Team Responsibilities:
- Operators must notify the Steam Engineers of any changes in steam usage for starting up or shutting down. Also report daily sprinkler and water pressure readings.
- Operators must communicate closely with the Solvent Plant Operators to co-ordinate product flow and quality.
- Each operator must perform an equal share of clean up duties.
