Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and must be enrolled in or a recent graduate of a university or college program with relevance to the environmental field.

Exceptional communication, presentation, report writing and organizational abilities are required. Computer skills, creativity and public speaking are also needed to be successful in this position.


Job Responsibilities:
• Have experience in dealing with the public and public speaking – this is a major component of the position
• Be able to work occasional weekends
• Have comprehensive computer expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint in order to prepare  presentations, populate spreadsheets and databases and prepare well written reports.
• Have the ability to conduct research on a broad range of environmental topics and prepare concise summaries on these topics.
• Be able to develop educational materials for environmental education events.
• Be conscious of their role in the representation of the Town in the public forum.
• Attend all staff training sessions pertinent to the position.
• Have the ability to multi-task based on their level of responsibility.
• Have exceptional organizational abilities to serve in preparation for community events and presentations to the public.
• Have an understanding of Town of Oakville policies, practices and procedures and adhere to all WHMIS Legislation as it applies to assigned duties
• Follow appropriate channels of communication in dealing with staff and public.  Concerns should be forwarded to the Director, Environmental Policy.
• Be familiar with presentation/teaching techniques for age appropriate public presentations.
• Keep neat, complete and accurate records of all work activities.
• Have an ability to focus attention on details.
• Have the ability to work in a team environment to ensure coordination between Town initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills:
• Shows exceptional communication, report writing and organizational abilities, computer skills, public involvement, and scientific field work would be an asset.
• Enrolled in or recently completed a university or college program with relevance to the environmental or horticultural field.
• Present a responsible and respectable presentation to the public at all times.
• Document all activities to ensure reproducibility of program from year to year.
