The Energy Accountant, located in Calgary, AB, is primarily responsible for providing information and support to the Natural Gas physical trading group, establishing and enforcing proper controls around timely and accurate sales and purchase invoicing and processing all payments to field producers.
This exciting, fast-paced environment requires the ability to prioritize, work with deadlines, interact effectively with peers and trading staff, learn the natural gas trading industry, and effectively apply concepts to every day job responsibilities.
Accountabilities:
45% Responsible for gas sales and purchase invoicing, update customer banking information, run the EFT payment process to ensure all information is accurate. Provide account payable and account receivable cash forecast to treasury. Verify payments and receipts.
15% Responsible for invoicing field purchases, gather pipeline confirmation of volumes and actualize volumes to match pipe support. Ensure all transport and recoveries for field are reconciled as well as preparing final statements.
20% Responsible for broker commissions and all tax requirements. Reconcile and remit taxes including GST, HST, PST, QST and carbon taxes. Representative for tax audits during any Revenue Canada or provincial audits. Reconcile broker invoices to trade system and process of payments to brokers.
10% Responsible for pipeline balancing and verify pipeline statement volumes to Allegro volumes.
10% Responsible for custom and regulatory reporting. Ensure all regulatory requirements are met each month and custom invoices are reviewed and paid each month.
Skills:
Required:
Business education majoring in accounting / 3rd level completion of an accounting designation or equivalent experience. 2+ years experience in accounting or commodity business Proficiency with Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to details with a high level of accuracy Strong customer service and problem solving skills Ability to handle multiple tasks, priorities and push for results Strong interpersonal and communication skills Strong administrative and organizational skills Self-motivated, analytical and performs work with a high level of accuracy Ability to work as a team player Demonstrated ability to perform independently and take initiative when appropriate Preferred: Previous experience in a trading environment is an asset Experience with JDE, Allegro systems and CXL is preferred
