Cargill AgHorizons is the division of the company dedicated to creating value for agricultural producers, specifically grain and oilseed growers in the Prairies and Ontario. This division leads the industry in providing innovations in the areas of grain origination, agronomic and grain marketing consulting, and crop input supplies. Position Purpose:
Reporting to the General Manager and a member of the Location Leadership Team, you will be accountable for leading a team of sales and counsulting professionals towards achievement of individual and team goals by driving the successful sales performance of the farm service center by developing a comprehensive customer-based plan to generate grain and crop inputs revenue from a targeted group of retail customers.
Principal Accountabilities:
65% - Provide team leadership that ensures every salesperson understands that achieving sales plan targets is the key measure of success. This position manages a sales and consulting process that encourages best sales practices including sales call planning, time management, adequate sales call preparation, appropriate amount of time spent with the customer, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), use of sales tools, etc. There is a continual focus on the development of teams' product knowledge and skill level. This position provides a motivational environment for the sales and consulting team that encourages individuals to excel in their tasks through such methods as team meetings, on-going recognition tactics, regular reminders of the regional business goals, etc. This position ensures that the sales and consulting team is focused on value added activities that result in superior value propositions for our customers and improved margins for Cargill. It is expected that more than one half of the time will be spent in the region with the sales and consulting professionals and their customers. It is the role of the Sales and Consulting Manager to hold their team accountable for meeting individual and team performance targets and goals.
20% - Ensure appropriate staffing, including selecting high performing individuals for the various sales and consulting roles, and attracting and interviewing potential candidates, either from inside the company or externally where necessary. The Sales and Consulting Manager ensures that the sales and consulting team are engaged, effectively trained and supported to perform their jobs at the highest level. This position performs on-going coaching and mentoring to develop employee skills for long term growth as a salesperson or consultant or for further advancement within the company.
5% - Contribute to the development of relevant programs and offerings. Together with the Regional Sales and Consulting Manager, Central Marketing Team, Purchasing Managers, Grain Merchants and suppliers, the Sales and Consulting team, participate in the creation and delivery of innovative value added offerings to customers. This position is responsible for coaching their team to most effectively segment and target their customers and tailor products, programs and approaches for best results, ensuring that specialized plans exist for each territory. Working along-side the Regional Sales and Consulting Manager, this position will identify and respond to potential market 'hot spots', and may jointly handle some major customer concerns. Partner with local supplier representatives.
10% - This position ensures that the sales and consulting team are aware of and support achievement of the teams' operational excellence and safety goals. Similarly, this position ensures that all location operations and admin staff have a clear understanding of the sales and consulting team's goals and initiatives. The Sales and Consulting Manager contributes to the exchange of information alongside the Customer Service Coordinator by reporting on customer contacts, production, pricing, quality and trends to product line managers and merchants. This position assumes a prominent role in credit management and contributes to crop inputs inventory management by assisting in preparation of accurate forecasts of products that will be necessary to satisfy customer requirements.
Skills:
Required:
Bachelors degree or diploma or equivalent relevant work experience
Understand the Canadian agricultural system at a high level including grain marketing, grain transportation, agronomy, and crop production
Good comprehension of Cargill's grain contracts and futures, options and basis programs
Strong people skills
Proven ability to apply sales process
Ability to effectively coach and develop a team of professional sales and consultant personnel
Knowledge of grain quality assurance and grading
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to motivate people and focus efforts on achieving objectives
Team player with the ability to work with customers and other staff at the location and in the region
Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada on a non-temporary basis

Indepth knowledge of crop input products and services
Indepth knowledge of Agronomic and Grain Marketing Services
