Job Description
The Director, Aboriginal Business Development is responsible for overall pursuit and capture of new Aboriginal business partnerships and management of newly acquired and current Aboriginal Partnerships; as well as oversight of the Aboriginal Business Development team within ATCO Structures & Logistics (ASL).

Specifically, this role is intended to link business opportunities with targeted and currently held partnerships;  ensure development of new partnerships in strategic areas; and maintenance of existing partnerships and relationships ensuring commitments (made by ASL) to those partners and communities are met.
 
Responsibilities

  •     Provides leadership for the day-to-day operations of the Aboriginal Business Development (ABD) group, while maintaining focus on the company's strategic goals
  •     Analyzes mining, oil and gas, and remote infrastucture industry trends to identify potential new strategic partnership opportunities in new markets for ASL product offerings as well as identifying areas where other ATCO Group companies can participate in a bundled service offering.
  •     Oversees Aboriginal Talent Management and contracting initiatives with partner communities
  •     Establishes performance goals for all ABD department employees and monitors performance
  •     Works with the senior leadership team in the development of the Strategic Marketing Plan and ASL Business Plan
  •     Directs department to achieve objectives established in the Company's Business Plan
  •     Coordinates engagement strategy with other departments/divisions of ASL
  •     Seeks out and targets new customers and new sales opportunities, initates plan to approach and secure new business for the company through posistioning with strategic Aboriginal groups.
  •     Develops and implements an effective strategic Aborignal Engagement and Partnering Plan
  •     Represents ASL at industry functions ensuring ASL is seen as an industry leader in Aboriginal business and engagement.
  •     Attracts, retains and develops a strong ABD team.
  •     Collaborates closely with the Sales and Proposal groups to identify areas where partnerships can provide a competitive advantage to ASL's sales efforts.
  •     Communicates and provides details on strategic plans with sales team to ensure the most up to date market intelligence and information is disseminated and available for inclusion in sales pursuit and capture process.     
  •     Collaborates closely with proposal team to ensure proposals convey details relative to partnerships in respective market areas.
  •     Maintains an ABD pipeline report on activities and opportunities across North America.
  •     Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  •     Post-secondary degree in Native Studies, Business, History or Political Science
  •     7-10 years’ experience in a Sales or Business Development with a strong background in dealing with Aboriginal Groups.
  •     Experience dealing with the mining, oil and gas, and remote infrastructure industries an asset.
  •     Proficient use of MS Office programs
  •     Background in dealing and negotiating with diverse and at time competing groups and interests, ranging from Government, Industry, and First Nations/Aboriginal stakeholders.
  •     Excellent problem resolution, judgment, team building and decision making skills required
  •     Excellent written/oral communication, presentation and relationship management skills required
  •     Strategic planning, organizational and coordination skills
  •     Displays critical thinking, sound judgment, tact, diplomacy and maturity in difficult situations
  •     Ability to operate with a minimal amount of supervision
  •     Ability to travel on short notice often times to remote locations
  •     Strong negotiating skills and ability to effectively influence decision makers
  •     Tact and diplomacy
