Responsibilities
    To provide quality care to all employees by developing and maintaining optimum work performance, minimizing associated risks to the hospital by developing, implementing and evaluating effective wellness programs and occupational health and safety management.
    The position involves primary care, counselling, prevention, disability management and rehabilitation and has a direct impact on costs associated with absenteeism, WSIB and LTD claims.
     Responsible for assessing and providing first aid to all injured and ill employees; providing care to volunteers, students and contract workers.
    Responsible for Initial Health assessments of employees and providing immunization as required by the OHA/OMA Communicable Disease Surveillance Protocol legislation.
    Responsible for  managing/monitoring employees’ ability to perform job tasks and to provide early intervention along with  accommodated work plans including coordinating  medical treatment by identification of a need for redirection of treatment in an attempt to effectively manage lost time and absenteeism.
    Responsible for, recommendation and implementation   of appropriate controls and tests to monitor and identify potential sources of infection, exposure to biological and chemical agents, and compliance with regulations in order to ensure the safety of employees.
    Responsible for increasing employees’ awareness of wellness programs to facilitate healthy lifestyles e.g. Promotion of EFAP, Health Fairs, Influenza vaccination clinics.

Qualifications
       Requires BSc in Nursing or diploma with Occupational Health Nurse experience, certification of competence from college of nurses and Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (candidates with certification in process will be considered).
    Two years experience in an Occupational Health setting.
    A current Canadian Nurses Association specialty certification in Occupational Health or a commitment to obtaining a certification within 3 years of beginning employment.
    PREFERRED:
    Five years experience in a Community and/or Occupational Health setting.
    Occupational Health and Safety experience in a health care environment.
    Five years active clinical experience in an acute care setting.
    Certification/Training in Disability Management.
    Knowledge of Parklane, Meditech and Microsoft Office Programs.
    Experience in training and education of workers regarding job safety.
    Knowledge of disability management principles and practices, medical surveillance principles, adult education, presentation skills, computers, immunology, epidemiology and statistical analysis.
    Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
