The Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) Marketing Communications Officer (MCO) will promote and publicize OVC’s programs and services to external stakeholders, ensuring reliability and consistency in message delivery.
Focusing on the strategic direction of the OVC, the incumbent will set priorities and effectively manage his/her time while taking the initiative to identify opportunities to communicate OVC’s programs and services through a broad range of marketing, communications, digital and event activities. Reporting to the OVC Dean, the MCO will: identify newsworthy events; interpret relevant information and expeditiously analyze data and research; create and update narrative profiles for OVC faculty; be responsible for the maintenance of the OVC website; and act as the primary liaison with campus units who assist with the publication and promotion of the OVC news, events, programs and services. The MCO will collaborate with subject-matter experts to effectively translate complex research, healthcare and academic subjects for various target audiences while ensuring consistency in the external message delivery. Occasionally, the MCO may assist the OVC Communications Officer with communications to internal clients and stakeholders and with standard OVC publications.
Requirements of the position include: Undergraduate degree in journalism, marketing, or communications and several years professional experience in a marketing communications role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated ability to: write professional web and marketing copy, and develop and implement creative, compelling and optimized concepts in print copy and on the web while maintaining brand messaging, persuasiveness and readability. Strong listening and negotiating skills with the ability to influence; creative thinking skills with proven experience in developing cases for support; ability to take initiative within policy guidelines; ability to adapt to changing situations and liaise and network with others.
