We require a dynamic individual who is seeking full time employment as a Parent Seed Production Agronomist in British Columbia.
The Parent Seed Production Agronomist is primarily responsible for the production of GEN0 (Breeder) seed under intensively managed tent sites. This role is accountable for maintaining genetic purity of elite germplasm of GEN0 parent seed production in Canada and in contra season locations. The successful candidate is a member of the operations team and applies his/her skills and technical expertise to ensure supply requirements of approved production plans is achieved. In addition this individual is expected to be an active participant in enhancing and expanding our parent seed capabilities and proficiency in a safe manner.
Job Responsibilities:
1) Facilitate and manage all aspects of grower/site management including field selection, contracting, grower payments, and agronomic direction as related to parent seed production.
2) Responsible for planning of field activities which include planting, spraying, field scouting, rogueing and harvesting GEN0 sites. As well assuring high quality parent seed at an economical cost.
3) Accountable for inventory ensuring that inventory data is accurately and properly recorded.
4) Responsible in assisting the coordination of seed movement to and from production areas.
5) Keep current on technology and agronomic developments, including insect, weed, disease, fertility, and seed quality and/or purity improvements.
6) Accountable for adherence to the Dow AgroSciences EH&S program. This includes all training and documentation related to all activities and accident/incidents reporting are adhered to in accordance with company policy.
7) Responsible for collection and documentation of all field activities and observations in SEEDPRO. Also accountable for collection of plant observations to support the Variety Development Process within the company as directed by the Canola Development Team.
Additional responsibilities include:
1) Assist with process for hiring, training, and directing all hourly full-time and temporary personnel within the parent seed department.
2) Assist with company sponsored safety, quality, cost, and reliability initiatives.
3) Participate in continuous improvement efforts.
4) Perform other duties as directed by the Operations Leader, Site Leader and Parent Seed Supply Chain Planner.
