This position is a one year maternity leave contract OverviewThe Human Resources Generalist will provide HR services for the Bunge Canada Oakville office and Packaging Plant and the Hamilton Crush/Refinery and EOF facilities. Under the guidance of the HR Director the Generalist will partner with facility management to develop, implement and administer human resources policies, programs and strategies. This position will be responsible maintaining positive employee and industrial relations and providing guidance and direction to leaders on typical HR issues.
Essential Functions:
• Advise management regarding policies, practices, laws and regulations and monitor application to ensure positive and equitable employee relations
• Champion the recruitment of new talent
• Assist in revision of job descriptions
• Manage requisition process
• Identify recruiting source
• Screen resumes and select candidates
• Participate in interview process
• Complete reference checks
• Prepare offers
• Manage all employee data changes in HR database and HRIS system
• Partner with management to assess leadership and employee development needs and identify solutions and needed resources
• Assist in development of succession plans and individual development plans
• Facilitate training workshops
• Advise and assist managers and supervisors in working to create an open and cooperative work environment, facilitating and promoting active and constructive communication in all areas of the organization to maintain and improve employee relations
• Advise managers and supervisors on progressive discipline and prepare documentation for presentation to the employee
• Coach termination process when necessary
• Respond to employee questions, queries, or concerns
• With guidance from the HR Director work effectively and develop relationships with the collective bargaining workforce and within guidelines of the collective bargaining agreement to ensure fair treatment and retaining management rights in issues involving grievance handling and matters of labor disagreements
• Support safety objectives and required reporting and manage Workers’ Compensation Claims
• Partner with corporate HR in administration of benefits, payroll and HRIS requests
• Collaborate with HR Director on company-wide projects and objectives
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or closely related field required or the equivalent work experience
• Two to three years HR Generalist experience in a manufacturing environment
• Union experience preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization
• Effective consulting, advising, coaching and facilitation skills required
• Related safety and Workers’ Compensation experience preferred
