Cargill Grain and Oilseeds Supply Chain's 4,500 tonne per day canola processing plant in Clavet, SK is the largest softseed plant in North America. Saskatchewan accounts for 45 percent of Canadian canola production. The processing facility produces canola oil and specialty canola oils as well as canola meal for the domestic North American and world markets. Canola oil is a healthy vegetable oil used in salad oil, frying and processed food applications. Canola meal is a high protein feed product used by the livestock industry.


As the process technician reporting to the production supervisor, you will work with operators, supervisors and other personnel to ensure safe and efficient operations, as well as ensuring the equipment is fully operational and in good repair.

Principal Accountabilities:

50% - Production
    Operate all equipment associated with the prep process, including flakers, Expellers, Oil handling, and Percon analysis system
    Monitor and adjust operation using computerized and controlled systems to meet department requirements
    Ensure accurate information of scale weights and transactions are recorded daily
    Process samples utilizing lab equipment to obtain and record values on a computer spreadsheet and collect samples for several process areas
    Work outdoors in a dusty environment
    Enter confined spaces under proper permit conditions and supervision

20% - Safety Awareness & Compliance
    Understand and adhere to Provincial and Federal Occupational Safety and Health rules and regulations as related to plant safety as well as all Cargill safety rules and regulations
    Maintain a safe and sanitary atmosphere with a high regard for environmental impact of the operation

20% - Preventative Maintenance
    Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment utilized by facility; determine immediate and long range needs for maintenance and repair work. Enter work orders utilizing maintenance computer program
    Troubleshoot minor problems as required

10% - Miscellaneous
    Attend various mandatory safety and department meetings
    Communicate in a courteous and positive manner to accomplish duties effectively, working as a team with all involved
    Assist other plant personnel as needed, and perform any other duty as requested by the production supervisor


Skills:
Required:

  •     High school diploma or equivalent degree or certification
  •     Must possess a 3rd class power engineering certificate and actively working towards 2nd class certification
  •     Must be willing and able to work 12 hour shifts, including nights, overtime, weekends, holidays and additional hours beyond regularly scheduled shifts to cover vacancies
  •     Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, etc. to work in elevated areas of the plant
  •     Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  •     Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong time management skills to prioritize follow-up on tasks
  •     Basic level of computer knowledge required, including Microsoft Office
  •     Demonstrated high performer (work performance, attendance record, safety record, etc.)
  •     Proven high level of mechanical aptitude


Preferred:

    Previous experience working in an industrial environment
