Function/Purpose:
The Parks Foreman is responsible for scheduling and supervising City employees and contractors as well as coordinating materials, and small and large equipment in order to efficiently achieve a wide range of services. This position also coordinates the implementation of the Parks Safety and Risk Management programs. Specifically, this position supervises and participates in construction & maintenance of various downtown amenities including shrub beds, flower beds, planters, lighting, pathways, trails & structures.

Job Requirements:
    Completion of Grade 12 (GED) plus portfolio specific education.
    Two years of portfolio specific experience in parks maintenance/construction.
    Completion of first-aid and C.P.R. courses required.
    Leadership for Safety Excellence Certificate required
    Valid Class 5 driver’s license required.
    Leadership and Supervisory Training or courses in Office Management preferred.
    One year progressive experience in horticultural maintenance including planning and design of formal parks and gardens plus one year experience in general construction and maintenance of hard landscaping.

        Ability to read plans and specifications.
        Knowledge of survey procedures.
        Knowledge of current environmental and ecological practices.
        Knowledge of municipal policies, procedures and bylaws.
        Ability to plan, assign and supervise equipment and staff efficiently and effectively.
        Ability to work with considerable independence in supervisory and budgetary activities.
        Ability to exert moderate physical effort on occasion and to work outside in all types of weather.
        Ability to operate, inspect and evaluate a wide variety of equipment typically used in parks landscaping and amenity maintenance. e.g. tractors, mowers, bucket trucks and chippers Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with employees and members of the public, both verbally and in writing.
        Knowledge of general construction and maintenance practices and principals.
        Knowledge and experience with business software such as Excel, Word & PowerPoint.

Specific Demands of the Job:
Performs regular duties similar to those of other crew members when required, exercising moderate physical effort.
On-call for emergency duty after regular hours and on weekends, on a year round basis.
