Selkirk Mental Health Centre is a 252-bed facility that provides long-term mental health in-patient treatment and rehabilitation services to residents of Manitoba whose challenging needs cannot be met elsewhere in the provincial health care system.  The Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)program provides rehabilitation services to those who meet admission criteria. Programs include Acquired Brain Injury, Acute, Rehabilitation, Geriatric and Forensics.  The incumbent may be assigned to work in any program area.

Qualifications:

Essential:

    A Master/Bachelors of Social Work and experience working with patients with Acquired Brain Injury.
    Ability to conduct social work practice with minimum direction and supervision within a physical/medical Rehabilitation program.
    Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships required for clinical practice in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
    Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
    Experience using computers in a Windows (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook) environment.

Desired:

    Previous experience in brain injury rehabilitation or other equivalent experience.
    Knowledge of and ability to utilize social, family and community resources relevant to practice including rural/northern/Aboriginal communities.
    Membership in MASW and MIRSW.

Condition of Employment:  must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Duties:
The incumbent is a member of an interdisciplinary  team providing intensive physical/medical rehabilitation to patients in the Acquired Brain Injury program.  Duties include gathering social history on admission, tracking rehabilitation, establishing community networks and liaising with partners in developing community placements with supportive resources.  Liaise with Centre, family and community and assume lead role in case management for the Team.  Facilitate in house support/group education and provide relevant counselling.
