Crop Production Services (CPS) has summer opportunities available for Crop Scout Assistants.  The Crop Scout Assistant inspects farmers’ fields and records weed, insect, disease and other observations.  These observations are then communicated to the CPS location representative and back to the customer.  The Crop Scout Assistant plays an important role in field scouting services offered to help farmers make timely, informed and economical field crop decisions.  There may also be an opportunity to provide location support and special events support during the growing season.

Training

You will be assigned either single or multiple CPS locations in a specific geography.  You will report to one supervisor who is responsible for your schedule, safety procedure training and agronomy training including weed, insect and disease identification, pest and crop population counts, crop and weed staging and other diagnostic issues that may occur in farmer’s fields.  You will have daily contact with your supervisor along with location representatives and other Crop Scout Assistants as required.  You will be supplied with equipment to do your job which may include a vehicle, a quad, cell phone and other equipment as necessary.

Qualifications

    Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time under all weather conditions;
    Persons looking for a challenging summer experience that involves prompt decision making, embracing leadership and helping farmers succeed;
    Above average organizational skills, ability to understand new concepts and learn quickly, complete work targets with little or no supervision in a timely manner, self motivated;
    Education includes (but not limited to) students or graduates from university or college agricultural programs, business programs or other education who are genuinely interested in working in the agricultural community;
    Having a farm background is advantageous but not necessary;
    You need a valid divers’ license and a good driving record.
