Safety Manager Reporting to the Human Resource Manager, the Safety Manager will be responsible to lead the development and implementation of the Company's Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) policies, systems and reports. The objective is to ensure the Plant layout, equipment design and OHS Standard Operating Procedures, as well as people practices including standardized safe work methods and high-impact behaviours, are developed so as to reduce/eliminate accidents which cause personal injury and/or property damage, reduce absenteeism, minimize WCB and related costs, reduce/eliminate orders and improve the effectiveness of staff involved in Occupational Health & Safety activities.
  
Position Responsibilities: 
 -Review and monitor (not to intervene, instruct or take responsibility for) on-site Contractor OHS programs and compliance with applicable regulations
-Review Plant lay-outs and identify potential OHS related risks - develop mitigation plans to address
-Review equipment and Contractor RFP's for OHS content; incorporate into OHS program development and training plans
- Ensure Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs) are properly completed ensuring written reports are in compliance with the applicable regulations and OHS System.
- Develops and constructs Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) identifying the basic job steps and tasks and their associated hazards and risks, and develops safe operating procedures and hazard controls
- Develops tools for identifying workplace hazards; develops plant-wide systems that support hazard recognition; develops an effective JHA, manages the JHA based program as a key component of the occupational safety and health management systems; enables plant to move from basic compliance to a pro-active safety management system
-Design and deliver training programs for workers, management and Safety Committee members to comply with legislative requirements and improve Health, Safety, Emergency and Security
- Personally respond to all serious accidents, to ensure that proper investigation and follow up is done
- Coordinate and liaise with Corporate Health & Safety committee to ensure strategic alignment and adoption of best practices;
- Ensure records and documentation are kept to protect Company interests

Position Requirements:
-CRSP designation preferred but not required
- 3 – 5 years experience in progressively responsible H&S role
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing business and plant processes
- Computer skills - desktop applications, Health & Safety and HR applications
- The ability to build relationships and credibility, to be in a position to influence others
- Ability to design and evaluate effective training programs
- Strong knowledge and experience in all aspects of Occupational Health & Safety and Security
- Able to develop and implement Job Hazard Analysis program
- Able to identify and integrate into safe work methods, high impact behaviours, and develop and apply leading indicator measurements
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organization and analytical skills
