Essential Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree preferably in a health/social sciences discipline.  A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  •  Experience collaborating and consulting with stakeholders with varying degrees of authority in personal care homes, Regional Health Authorities and/or government.
  •  Experience in research and analysis, development, and implementation of programs/policies and leading major initiatives.
  •  Excellent written communication skills, including preparing draft and final documents.
  •  Demonstrated oral communication skills.
  •  Strong interpersonal skills.
  •  Demonstrated political acumen with the ability to exercise good judgement.
  •  Ability to work independently.
  •  Excellent collaboration skills, including the ability to work in a team environment.
  •  Demonstrated critical thinking skills, including problem solving.
  •  Knowledge and understanding of current issues related to health and aging.
  •  Knowledge and understanding of current issues related to long-term care.
  •  Proficiency using computer software, preferably Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with rural, remote and northern communities.

Condition of Employment:

Job Duties:
The Long Term Care (LTC) Consultant is responsible for leadership, consultation and coordination of activities related to Long Term Care.  The incumbent writes policy and makes recommendations regarding policy change, standards, regulations and legislative changes and amendments under The Health Services Insurance Act.  The incumbent possesses thorough and comprehensive knowledge of the long-term care sector and has a thorough understanding of population health and the health care delivery system.  The Consultant is a team leader and specialist who plans, organizes, conducts, monitors, reports and follows up on Standards Reviews to personal care homes (PCHs) to ensure compliance with the PCH Standards Regulation under The Health Services Insurance Act.  The incumbent is responsible for professional consulting to the Regional Health Authorities, other agencies, and branches of government, and for advice to the Department on developments, new initiatives and outcomes in the area of long-term care. The incumbent provides advice to the Minister, Deputy Minister and other senior staff of the Department of Health on a wide range of Long Term Care policy issues.
