Key Responsibilities
• Identify and communicate trends and developments in tax which are relevant to clients and other professional staff;
• Develop and document tax planning recommendations;
• Conduct and document tax research and resolve complex tax issues;
• Provide support to assurance partners and professional staff on tax-related matters;
• Provide guidance, coaching and development to the firm’s professional staff;
• Review complicated tax filings to ensure all tax-related matters have been effectively addressed;
• Develop effective working relationships at all levels, internally and externally;
• Provide third-party tax consulting to smaller accounting firms;
• Identify and follow-through of any opportunities for new client business, in alignment with the Firm’s business development strategy.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
• Significant tax planning and compliance experience, including an in-depth understanding of Canadian taxation matters;
• Some knowledge of cross-border transactions is desirable;
• Sound technical background in Canadian income and commodity tax;

Formal Qualifications
• Qualified Canadian Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) or other relevant professional accounting designation;
• Successfully completed (at minimum) Levels I and II of the CICA In-depth Tax Course. Alternatively, the candidate may possess an MTax degree, or equivalent studies;
• A minimum of 10 years’ work experience in a mid-sized Canadian public accounting practice, with a broad background in accounting and assurance and the majority of time spent in tax.
