The candidate will perform the broadest range of accountant tasks with a minimum of assistance from sole practitioner. He/she will be able to make decisions on all but the most unusual accounting and income tax matters. When such problems arise, the candidate will outline them for sole practitioner, provide recommendations for resolution and then act on as directed. They will assume responsibility for smooth flow of preparation of client financial statements and corporate & personal tax statements.
The candidate will be able to set up and manage time budgets on jobs and lead bookkeepers to employ methods that will accomplish objectives in a timely manner. He/she will model professional conduct, confidence and leadership in the presence of staff and client representatives. They will be proactive and demonstrate initiative, time management and organizational skills. The candidate will have experience in successfully mentoring and leading teams of Staff Accountants, Bookkeepers and administrative personnel. This is a hands-on role where candidate will be expected to contribute to work load.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Performs diversified accounting and income tax assignments, initially under the direction of sole practitioner and later independently
2. Demonstrates competency in technical skills, work quality and application of professional and firm standards
3. Meets time constraints and all corporate and individual client deadlines
4. Participates in planning and scheduling client engagements
5. Directs and instructs bookkeepers in work to be performed and working paper review
6. Prepares Notice to Readers, Review Engagements and maintains detailed working paper files
7. Prepares and indexes working papers; performs various procedures established under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to verify accuracy and validity of client’s financial matters
8. Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of the Firm’s policies, procedures, philosophy and tax opinions
9. Demonstrates ability to develop quality client relationships, providing day-to-day support as a valuable resource to the Firm’s clients
10. Possess a command of GAAP, other comprehensive bases of accounting, unique or specialized accounting principles and financial statement presentations
11. Has acquired a thorough understanding of the income tax act, is able to identify tax issues and present and support alternatives to sole practitioner
12. Assumes responsibility for effectively supervising both review and non-review engagement with a minimum of disruption to client and/or sole practitioner
13. Prepares personal and corporate tax returns, including the most complex and reviews and approves returns prepared by staff
14. Performs supervised technical research and acts as a resource in situations requiring judgment and formulation of alternative courses of action
15. Performs initial and more complex tax research on own and as directed by sole practitioner
16. Remains current with tax regulatory developments and keeps the Firm informed as to updates and changes
17. Analyzes Canada Revenue Agency statements, notices, notices of reassessment, etc., and either drafts responses or reviews those prepared by staff
18. Represents clients before the Canada Revenue Agency during in-house income tax audits (GST, PST, income tax, payroll, etc)
19. Acts as Senior Staff Accountant for clients and represents them for a variety of engagements
20. Works with sole practitioner to establish standards for the tax staff and evaluates and advises tax staff members
21. Prepares, reviews and discusses fees/invoices with client. Resolves any issues related to fees/invoices by gathering supporting documents and discussing recommended resolution with sole practitioner
22. Possesses experience using Caseview/Caseware, Profile and Profitcents software
23. Possesses experience using Quickbooks and Simply Accounting software
24. Ability to independently interact with clients to resolve accounting tax & business issues
25. Identifies and develops new opportunities for additional accounting, tax and consulting services
26. Ability to multi-task and deal with competing deadlines while offering quality client service
