Job title:Community Crime Prevention Response Specialist

Function/Purpose:
       As part of the City RCMP Detachment, the Crime Prevention Specialist responds to non-urgent calls for service and performs duties to augment the activities of police officers related to Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statutes. They are also responsible for the delivery of community crime prevention programs within the City of Red Deer. They conduct business and residential security inspections and provide “target hardening” advice to citizens. As well, they are responsible for service of legal documents, court attendance, photographing and fingerprinting, and assisting police officers in the picking up and returning of stolen and/or lost and found property.

Job Requirements:
    Grade 12 (GED), College Diploma in Law Enforcement or equivalent preferred.
    Must have a minimum of 3 years related Bylaw/Police or Crime Prevention experience.
    Pass stringent RCMP Security Clearance
    Physically fit and have a healthy lifestyle.
    Ability to complete courses and/or training for: PROS, CPIC User Course.
    Must have knowledge of computer programs (e.g. CIIDS mobile workstations, WordPerfect, GroupWise E-mail, and Microsoft Windows) and knowledge of legal and court related procedures.
    Possess current thorough knowledge of current Federal, Provincial and municipal legislation an asset.
    Ability to type accurately at least 35 wpm
    Required to have a valid First Aid, WHMIS & CPR certification.
    Must successfully complete Defensive Driver training, CIIDS and PIRS training.
    Must possess at all times a valid class 5 Driver’s License
    Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CEPTED) training would be an asset

Specific Demands of the Job
    Subject to receiving calls after hours at home from employees.
    Work irregular hours including shift work or weekends if required.
    Deadlines, scheduling, and workload can create stressful situations.
    Subject to verbal abuse and/or complaints from general public.
    Subject to risk of personal injury and exposure to West Nile Virus.

Hours of Work: 75 hours biweekly. Hours will consist of shiftwork, predominately days however evenings and weekends may be required.
