Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have:
A qualified certificate in an Infrastructure Operations and Maintenance field (i.e. minimum 10 month technical course at a Community College, 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate) or equivalent training and related experience.
Several years of experience in maintenance work, including building maintenance.
The ability to understand and interpret drawings.
Effective interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent teamwork skills.
Excellent decision making skills.
The ability to plan, organize and follow-up.
Experience with assisting Journeymen and other tradesmen is desirable.
The following are conditions of employment:
Must have a valid class 5 drivers’ licence.
Physically capable of performing the required activities of the position including working in a secure (correctional) environment; be able to work outdoors; may be required to work overtime, rotate on-call after hours and occasional shift work.
Must be able to travel within the District with occasional overnight stays.
Must provide a satisfactory security check including a Criminal Record check and Child Abuse Registry check.
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Candidates not meeting the full qualifications may be considered for an underfill.
Duties:
Under the direction of the Facility Manager/Maintenance Assistant, the incumbent will be required to perform minor maintenance and repairs and other related duties at the UCN Thompson Campus. These duties pertain to the following areas: HVAC repairs and maintenance; boiler and hot water heating system maintenance; minor plumbing problems; repair refrigeration units; charging of light bulbs; installing rubber baseboards; touch-up painting; plastering; unplugging drain lines and assist in preventative maintenance.
