Cargill is a large and reputable food company with operations around the world.  Cargill Value Added Meats – Foodservice operates a chicken processing plant in London, Ontario and a hatchery in Jarvis, Ontario.  The processing plant employs approximately 900 employees and processes 85,000 chickens each day.  The hatchery has approximately 70 employees and, on average, produces 150,000 chicks per day.  Cargill Value Added Meats – Foodservice operates ground beef processing facilities in Brampton, Ontario and Spruce Grove, Alberta employing approximately 130 employees.

Position Overview:
As the Operations Manager based out of the poultry processing plant in London, ON, you will be responsible for engaging, coordinating, and scheduling departmental operations and its stakeholders to ensure the manufacturing of company products is performed in a safe and sanitary manner with emphasis on food and personnel safety, environmental awareness, and customer satisfaction.

Principal Accountabilities:
35% – Stakeholder engagement and development – Coach and mentor supervisory staff with employee related issues, engagement, performance management and talent development.  Maintain optimum talent pool through active participation in recruitment.  Assist supervisors in grievances and ensure a consistent application of company policies and procedures.

35% – Operational Excellence – Optimize plant performance through the utilization of scheduling and materials available.  Continuous evaluation of the operational process to identify problems and assist supervisors in reducing loss or maximize potential and/or efficiency.  Ensure departmental key performance indicators (KPI’s) and progress is made towards those targets.

20% – Safety and Food Safety management – Ensure compliance with all of our food safety regulations and policies (HACCP, GMP’s, Animal Welfare).  Participate in plant audits and safety/food safety initiatives.  Investigate non-conformances and identifying permanent resolutions.

10% – Administration – Prepare and manage departmental budget throughout the year.  Assist in the preparation of capital requests and justifications.

Skills:
Required:
    Completion of post secondary education
    3 years experience in a manufacturing environment in a management role
    Familiarity with product development and plant manufacturing equipment
    Working knowledge of HACCP
    Ability to work various shifts and hours per week
    Ability to lead a team and provide direction
    Ability to work in an environment with regular exposure to poultry, dander, dust, etc.
    Strong verbal and written communication skills
    Mechanical aptitude

 Preferred:
    Post-secondary degree in Animal Science, Poultry Science or Operations Management
    3 – 5 years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment
    Experience in primary processing in a food manufacturing environment
