We are seeking for our Forestry Farm in Southeast New Brunswick (Moncton area) an experienced and entrepreneurial
FOREST OPERATIONS MANAGER/SITE MANAGER
Job summary:
The Manager will directly manage all forestry operations (5000 acres of sustainable forest and several hundred acres of open farmland) and support some industrial operations (PVC regrind and pallet manufacturing), develop and implement plans for further enhancements and be responsible for the P&L of the farm businesses.
Responsibilities include:
- Manages and supervises, with hands-on involvement, all forestry and farming activities, including land prep, planting, fertilization, and harvesting.
- Supports PVC regrind and pallet manufacturing operations on the farm site
- Identifies, sources, and hires labor (mostly contractors); develops and manages teams;
- Assures overall forestry operations are in compliance with established forest policies and objectives; reviews and evaluates forest management accomplishments through established reporting systems
- Develops and manages operating budgets; assess the capital budget needs; manage costs; and deliver expected profitability
- Responsible for submission of production data and any required crop information.
- Ensures compliance with all labor laws, company policy and workers safety
- Maintains a well organized, clean and safe work environment
- Lives on the farm in the farmhouse and is responsible for maintaining and fostering of the farm house, gardens, park and other grounds
- Supports the owner family during their occasional visits (catering, housekeeping etc.)
Qualifications:
Forestry degree, combined with business training, RFP preferred
Several years of experience in managing forestry operations, some farming experience desired
Skills:
- Demonstrated strength in operational administration, including reporting and planning
- Understanding of agricultural financial measurements, strong business acumen
- Self-starter; ability to work independently as well as with team members and management
- Detail oriented, with effective verbal, writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to develop and manage personnel
- Ability to operate farm equipment
- Engage in hands on forestry and farming activities
- Knowledge of the broad range of forestry principles and practices applicable to forest management, protection and utilization including the economic value and contribution of forests and forest products
