Cargill is a large and reputable food company with operations around the world. Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates a chicken processing plant in London, Ontario and a hatchery in Jarvis, Ontario. The processing plant employs approximately 900 employees and processes 85,000 chickens each day. The hatchery has approximately 70 employees and, on average, produces 150,000 chicks per day. Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates ground beef processing facilities in Brampton, Ontario and Spruce Grove, Alberta employing approximately 130 employees.

Position Overview: 
As the Hatchery Manager at the hatchery in Jarvis, ON, you are responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating hatchery operations in support of the efficient production of quality poultry products with due regard for safety, sanitation, the environment, and customer satisfaction.

Principal Accountabilities: 
40% - Operational Excellence - Oversee day to day operations of the hatchery including production, quality, sanitation, transfer, maintenance, product pickup and delivery and service departments. Direct supervision and coaching to the Supervisory team and indirect supervision and coaching to all Hatchery Stakeholders. Ensure adherence to production schedule and egg flows. Lead all communication programs in the hatchery to promote engagement and facilitate effective sharing of information.
20% - Stakeholder engagement and development - Assist in recruitment, selection and training of hatchery stakeholders. Coach, mentor and lead the hatchery supervisors with employee relation issues, performance management, career development and building engaged teams. Ensure consistency in application of corporate Human Resources programs, policies, rules and regulations.
15% - Safety - Maintain total awareness of and compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Company Health & Safety policies, in addition to the corporate policies. Ensure all accidents and incidents are investigated and corrective actions / preventative measures are implemented. Active participant in the joint health and safety committee. Create an environment where stakeholders work toward the culture where zero injuries occur.
15% - Quality - Oversee all aspects of the hatching process, equipment operation and parameters, monitoring and reaction programs, data collection and program design. Oversee the HACCP program for program updates and regular completion of required monitoring and verification tasking. Ensure initiation of quality reports for incoming egg and chick quality. Oversee vaccination production and administration programs. Ensure proper Sanitation programs are maintained and monitored.
10% - Administration - Generate document, reports and correspondence. Ensure maintenance of an appropriate filing system for all hatchery documents. Schedule and manage staff meetings and employee training sessions. Ensure all computer records are maintained with appropriate reports generated.

Skills:
Required:

    Post-secondary degree or diploma
    Minimum 3 years of experience managing in an agricultural setting and/or production of live animalsSupervisory experience with excellent training and leadership skills
    Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
    Excellent organization and planning skills
    Able to adapt to work in various work conditions ( noise, odours, dust, fumes, wet/damp, chemicals)
    Must be flexible with schedule of working hours and workdays
    Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and graphics applications
    Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a non temporary basis

Preferred:

    Post-secondary degree in Animal Science or Agriculture
    5 or more years experience in a modern hatchery setting
