Cargill AgHorizons is the division of the company dedicated to creating value for agricultural producers, specifically grain and oilseed growers in the Prairies and Ontario.  This division leads the industry in providing innovations in the areas of grain origination, agronomic and grain marketing consulting, and crop input supplies.  Professionally trained customer focus teams work one-on-one with their producer customers, building long-term relationships-striving to understand their farming business and providing distinctive solutions, matched to their unique needs.  
Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will be accountable for creating a strategic differential advantage in the marketplace serviced by the Farm Service Centre (FSC) and will link with other managers in Cargill to ensure that the FSC has all the necessary resources needed for efficient operation and meeting customer needs.  You will unite people, processes, assets and programs to provide solutions that offer distinctive value for our customers.  You will provide leadership to the Operations, Sales, Consulting, Finance and Administrative staff who create the high performance team necessary for the business to prosper and satisfy customers.  You also play a significant role in enhancing Cargill's image in the local community, and you will lead the FSC team towards the common goal of maximizing profits and performance for our customers and for Cargill in a safe, sustainable, and engaging manner.

Principal Accountabilities:

50% - Develop, communicate, direct, and measure a strategic business vision and sales strategy in conjunction with FSC staff that will focus all efforts on ensuring sustainable business growth and profitability; develop a high performing team of Sales and Consulting and Operations Managers who work collaboratively and communicate effectively to bring Cargill solutions to customers through their direct reports; coach staff in creating sales and operating plans geared toward profitable growth and customer service, and implement plans, monitor performance and make recommendations; lead improvements in areas such as loss prevention, expense reduction, volume, and market share growth; review monthly profit and loss statements for the FSC and all expenses and capital projects

20% - Ensure that all processes and procedures in the areas of administration, agronomy, operations, and sales are in place and properly executed to meet Cargill and customer needs; communicate with Regional Functional Managers and other General Managers to share knowledge and identify, refine and implement best practices; lead by example in inspecting facilities and equipment and complying with all Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) procedures to prevent injury, loss, or environmental damage, and monitor programs to ensure proper controls are in place

20% - Ensure staff is properly positioned in the FSC to be high performing and dedicated to working towards a common vision and providing a high level of customer service; work towards integration of all FSC employees and strive to ensure that Cargill's employees are the best in the industry; participate in customer calls to understand their needs and to develop sales skills; monitor and ensure compliance with Performance Management and On-Boarding processes

10% - Stay current on trends and developments in the grain, crop input, and seed business and monitor developments in new technology and in the farm economy to determine the impact they might have on the FSC, to our customers, and to identify opportunities; assess performance of facilities and recommend improvements or expansions of existing facility, and seek out strategic business advantages and opportunities; assess current performance in the market place and identify opportunities and areas for improvement

Skills:
Required:

    Bachelors degree or diploma or equivalent relevant work experience
    Extensive knowledge of the grain handling and crop input business
    Proven leadership skills, team building skills, and interpersonal skills
    Strong understanding of the agricultural system at a high level including grain marketing, grain transportation, agronomy, and crop production
    Ability to effectively coach and lead a team of sales and operations leaders
    Knowledge of EHS practices, WHMIS legislation and the TDG Act
    Ability to motivate people and focus efforts on achieving objectives
    Excellent organizational and communication skills
    Team player with the ability to work with customers and other staff at the location and in the region
    Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada on a non-temporary basis

Preferred:

    Sound knowledge of all business product lines
    Knowledge of provincial and municipal environmental requirements
    Experience in the agricultural industry
