Cargill Grain and Oilseeds Supply Chain's (GOSCNA) 4500 tonne per day canola processing plant in Clavet, Saskatchewan, is the largest softseed plant in North America. The canola crush plant east of Saskatoon, which opened in the mid-1990's, employs approximately 100 people. Saskatchewan accounts for 45 percent of Canadian canola production. The processing facility produces canola oil and specialty canola oils as well as canola meal for the domestic North American and world markets. Canola oil is healthy vegetable oil used in salad oil, frying and processed food applications. Canola meal is a high protein feed product used by the livestock industry.
Position Overview:
As the Quality Assurance and Food Safety Coordinator in the Clavet, SK oilseed processing plant, you are ultimately responsible for assurance of all final meal product shipments to meet or exceed customer requirements and food safety for both refinery and crush operations.
The assurance of quality necessitates design and maintenance of quality assurance systems encompassing food safety (crush and refinery) and meal quality (incl. methods, procedures, maintenance, calibration, cross-checks, training, auditing, raw materials verification, purchasing).
You must facilitate training programs to ensure sufficient knowledge of QA and Food Safety for members of the facility production, merchandising and accounting teams to enable process support. You are a primary contact for direct customer interaction surrounding meal quality and all food safety programs at the Clavet facility. Also, you will work together with the Refinery QA Supervisor to address customer requirements and concerns, as well as collaborate on audits.
The Quality Assurance and Food Safety coordinator will step in to lead the lab team in the absence of the Refinery QA Supervisor and provide leadership to the QA team on meal analysis, food safety activities and project work.
Principal Accountabilities:
35% - Plan, Coordinate and direct all food safety programs within the location to ensure compliance with company, governmental and customer requirements and expectations.
20% - Final product safety, regulatory and quality compliance. Customer interaction, visits, response to audits and issues, relationship tracking, perform internal HACCP, PRP and various other internal food safety audits.
20% - Plan, coordinate and provide food safety training for operations personnel and supervisory staff 15% - Maintenance and utilization of quality assurance and food safety systems.
10% - data and trend analysis, other duties as assigned
Skills:
Qualifications: Required:
• Four year degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Engineering, Biological Science, or related discipline
• Minimum 2 years of Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory experience
• Knowledge of quality assurance and/or food safety concepts
• Strong computer skills; intermediate level or above in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills
• Ability to learn equipment function and maintenance
• Willing and able to work an 8 hour shift and weekends
• Demonstrate knowledge of quality systems and exemplify good leadership, management and customer interaction
• Necessary skills include strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal effectiveness and management of multiple priorities. It is extremely important to have the ability to apply technical concepts to daily processing and quality problems
• Physical ability to perform site inspections including walking, climbing, entering confined spaces; lifting up to 25 lbs
