 Position Purpose:

RBC Wealth Management is a top 10 globally focused Wealth Management firm.  In addition to RBC Global Asset Management, RBC WM has Wealth Management businesses in Canada, the US, UK, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean spanning approximately 4,000 client facing advisors with assets of over $450 billion.



The Portfolio Advisory Group’s (PAG) mandate is to enable RBC WM Advisors to consistently deliver investment solutions to their clients with the highest level of competency and confidence in the areas of Asset Allocation and the construction of portfolios utilizing a wide range of marketable securities which comprise over $250 billion of the firm’s asset base.  PAG plays an important role in the recruiting and retention of senior Advisors through the development of one-on-one relationships and best in class communications, portfolios, support, and execution.



PAG is comprised of a number of teams covering Canadian, US, European, and Asian equity markets, a North American Fixed Income Strategies team, a team responsible for portfolio modeling and tools, and various trade execution and support teams.  Members of PAG are located in Toronto, various US cities, Hong Kong, Singapore, and London.



The mandate of the Equity Advisory teams is to be an independent and objective source of ideas and strategy advice to the firm’s advisors.  The groups operate as a cross between an equity sales team and strategy and research group.  They are entrepreneurial teams whose primary product is their ability to add independent insight to the wide range of research available to WM Advisors, and market their ideas accordingly.



Successful Portfolio Advisors in the past have come from a wide range of fields including investment banking, institutional equity sales, institutional equity research, and industry.  Relative to the above-mentioned fields, this role provides a great deal of creative freedom, opportunity to develop and exercise independent judgment, and the ability to specialize in the equity markets without being confined to one small group of names.



The scope of the Equity Advisor’s services covers asset allocation, portfolio construction, investment strategy, and analysis of individual companies and securities.



The Opportunity:

The US equity team is currently seeking to fill a US Portfolio Advisor position located in Toronto.  The US equity team is comprised of eight Portfolio Advisors located in Toronto (2), Minneapolis (4), Seattle (1), and San Francisco (1).



Key Accountabilities:

·          Collaboration across border with other members of the US equity team, and across markets with the rest of PAG.

·          Primary responsibility for supporting Investment Advisors within Wealth Management Canada.

·          Development and dissemination of timely equity ideas.

·          Promotion and on-going development of a portfolio approach to investments based primarily upon the firm’s Guided Portfolio Process.

·          Building personal relationships and providing proactive service to the top ranked IAs.  Provide timely and thoughtful responses to IAs seeking advice with respect to equity securities.

·          Leveraging a wide range of media including conference calls, e-mail bulletins and regular publications.

·          Perform individual portfolio reviews on an on-request basis and assist IAs in developing portfolio proposals.

·          There are opportunities for travel and both IA and Client-oriented presentations.



A successful portfolio advisor will excel in a number of the following skills:

·          Ability to demonstrate a strong personal affinity for the capital markets.

·          Ability to distill complex or detailed financial information into key points and a recommendation.

·          Public speaking abilities.

·          Written communication.

·          Ability to understand the IA’s business and identify themes and issues that can have an impact on their business.



Knowledge/Experience:
·          5 years direct industry experience in research, sales, investment banking, or industry.

·          Applicants should hold a CFA charter or demonstrate that they are in the process of obtaining one.

·          English / French bilingualism would be an asset.
