Job Description:
The position of Contract Solutions Architect involves the analysis, design, development and consultative tasks related to the application of architecture at a business function level. The role provides a holistic perspective of architecture to a specific business function and IT Solutions Team through collaboration with Leads, Business Analysts, Enterprise Architects, and Infrastructure Architects. Encana is currently looking for a Solution Architect with experience in Geographic Information Systems supporting the Mapping business function.

Responsibilities:

• understand and advocate the usage of IT Principles, standards and guidelines within domain-based projects and processes
• participate in the evaluation and selection of solutions for a line of business from four architecture perspectives: business, information, application, and technical
• conduct preliminary analysis of proposed domain solutions to detect architecture deficiencies and recommend solutions/options for improvement to ensure alignment with Enterprise Architecture, Domain Target Architecture and IT Strategy
• conduct Architecture Fit Assessments (AFA) of domain-based projects and represent domain interests during Architecture review
• conduct Solution Assessments (SA) of existing solutions to provide direction and inform decisions on change, sustainment, or replacement of the solution
• utilize and promote an exception based process for aligning with Encana’s Enterprise Architecture
• represent domain architecture requirements on Enterprise Architecture programs
• liaise with Solution Architects, Enterprise Architects and Infrastructure Architects on an ongoing basis

Qualifications:

• must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related field or equivalent experience
• 10+ years’ experience in Information Technology
• 5+ years’ hands-on experience within an Application, Data or Technical environment
• held the position of Architect for a minimum of 2 years in the last 10 years
• exposure to multiple and diverse technical environments
• knowledge of coaching, mentoring and people management
• familiar with data modeling, database, integration, content management, and application development tools/software
• knowledge of E&P Industry standards for data storage, data exchange (e.g. PPDM, WITSML, XML)
• experience with GIS systems including ESRI
• aptitude for quickly comprehend and communicate the function and capabilities of new technologies without bias
• capacity to understands long-term and short-term perspectives
• ability to keep a holistic view of the Enterprise when diving into the details
• able to influence and build consensus in the absence of authority
• ability to articulate the value of Architecture and how it relates to the IS Project lifecycle and IS Solution lifecycle
• excellent analytical and broad technical skills
• strong organizational and leadership skills
• excellent interpersonal, teamwork, facilitation, listening and negotiation skills
• exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• familiarity with Program and Project management
• strong understanding of the Oil and Gas Industry
