Basic Function:
To provide instructional art classes in a variety of mediums to children, youth and adults in a studio art environment. Must be an independent, reliable individual able to work with minimal supervision and expected to assist in developing curriculum.

Job Description:
Visual art instructors are responsible for developing program specific curriculum, preparing and teaching studio art classes, demonstrating techniques, and introducing children, youth and adults to contemporary visual art and craft.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• To prepare, lead and deliver visual art and craft classes to meet the needs of all participants registered in the program
• To assist in the research and development of appropriate arts programming for beginner and practicing artists, ensuring that art activities are safe, creative, and inclusive of all program participants
• To provide a positive learning and recreational experience for all participants

Qualifications/Skills:
• Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program in Visual Arts or a related discipline
• Demonstrated abilities and a strong knowledge of contemporary visual art and craft
• Familiar with a broad range of artistic techniques, practices and materials with one or more of the following interests/skills: painting, drawing, illustration, clay sculpture/ceramics, woodworking, printmaking, mixed media, textiles, digital arts, digital photography
• Experience developing lesson and activity plans
• Previous teaching experience in an educational setting
• Strong organizational, planning, time management and leadership skills
• Ability to be flexible and adapt instructional practices to diverse audiences
• Ability to work independently
• Successful candidates, who are new hires and/or who have not performed in this position previously will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check, with vulnerable sector screening, dated within the last 30 days as a condition of employment.
