Job overview:
Under the supervision of the Transit Operations Supervisor or Transit Coordinators and on-road direction from the Transit Lead Hand, the Transit Operator, operates a bus to transport passengers to local destinations in a professional, reliable, and safe manner; and provides related information to the public.
Main responsibilities

A Transit Operator assists all passengers while boarding and de-boarding buses; this includes the securing of passengers in wheelchairs or scooters.

Additionally, the incumbent performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections, follows established safety procedures and standards, collects fares, and provides passengers with exceptional customer service. A Transit Operator also monitors passenger behaviour, and refuses service to individuals who may be a threat to the safety of others or to individuals refusing to pay the fare. A Transit Operator is also responsible for maintaining bus cleanliness by sweeping it out at the end of the shift, and reports all operational problems; such as delays and mechanical problems according to established procedures. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
We are seeking an individual with a Grade 10 and a minimum of 2 years safe bus driving experience, including direct and relevant experience dealing with the public.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
 A thorough knowledge of the geographic layout of the City of Grande Prairie and transit routes is required, as well as demonstrated ability to participate effectively as a member of a team, and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Knowledge of and demonstrate understanding of the transportation needs of persons with disabilities, ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public, and physical ability perform the assigned duties is required. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, other professionals in various fields, co-workers, and other City departments is also required.

Candidates are required to have a valid Alberta Class 2 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement and a current and clear Alberta driver’s abstract. All abstracts and documents must be acceptable to the Employer.

Candidates must have or be able to obtain standard first aid and CPR training within 3 months of hire.

Candidates will be required to obtain a RCMP Criminal Records Check, as well as a Vulnerable Sector Check.
