PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Prepare and monitor the Company’s consolidated interest expense budget;
Develop high level monthly cash flow and balance sheet forecasts and corresponding variance analysis for Treasury planning;
Develop and maintain financial models to support fair value calculations required for financial reporting as well as various regression tests used in supporting derivative hedge accounting documentation;
Prepare Treasury related supporting schedules used in the Company’s quarterly and annual financial statement and MD&A reports;
Provide support in financial risk management activities;
Provide support in capital market activities.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Prepare interest expense budget and forecasts as well provide monthly variance analysis vs. budget and prior year actuals to senior management (annual budget in excess of $275 million). Investigate and resolve unexplained variances.
Develop high level monthly cash flow and balance sheet forecasts and corresponding variance analysis for Treasury planning, senior management and the Board, and MYP process.
For financial reporting develop and update monthly complex fair value models used to support Performance Share Units (PSUs) liability and mark-to-market valuations for derivative instruments.
Prepare treasury related supporting schedules used in the Company’s quarterly and annual financial statement and MD&A reports.
Create and/or maintain CP’s Financial Risk Management Policy and related procedures.
Design and execute strategies to mitigate volatility associated with fuel, currencies, and interest rates.
As required, prepare presentations for senior management and / or Financial Risk Management Committee, and/or The Board including:
Market updates;
Potential financial risks;
Recommended mitigation strategies;
Status of existing positions (including mark to markets).
Prepare and aid in the development of effectiveness and ineffectiveness tests used to support various hedging programs (i.e. FX and interest rate).
Ensure compliance with SOX and other internal audits including liaising with both CP’s internal and external auditors.
Work with Financial Analysis in the preparation of business case to ensure financing viability.
Assist in the accounting determination of lease structures.
Support and contribute to the content of and approach to on-going relationship with rating agencies including preparation of semi-annual presentation by senior management.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
CA, CPA, CMA, CGA designation;
Minimum 3-5 years related experience;
Prefer but not required PRM/CFA/MBA/Technical Analysis (Charting);
Advanced financial modeling skills using Excel;
Working knowledge of regression, Black Scholes, binomial and Monte Carlos modeling;
Intermediate Reuters and/or Bloomberg skills;
Working knowledge of SAP, Word and PowerPoint;
Diplomacy and ability to work with others;
Influencing and negotiation skills;
Ability to build and maintain credibility among CP internal stakeholders, banking and leasing counterparties and rating agency analysts;
Strong oral and written communication skills, initiative and imagination;
Analytical and decision making ability.
