Qualifications:
The following criteria are essential:
• Post-secondary education in a related discipline such as law, business administration, etc. combined with significant progressive experience in labour relations. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Experience as chief spokesperson in collective agreement negotiations.
• Experience negotiating settlements and resolving disputes in a unionized environment.
• Extensive experience with labour justice processes and related acts and legislation (such as The Employment Standards Code, The Worker’s Compensation Act, The Labour Relations Act, etc.)
• Demonstrated knowledge of arbitral jurisprudence and case law relative to employment legislation and their application to contract administration.
• Strong leadership skills and experience developing and motivating a diverse team of highly skilled professionals.
• Experience with change management and strategic planning, including anticipating trends and associated risks and opportunities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with experience building relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical, creative problem solving and decision making skills.
• Ability to plan and manage multiple sensitive priorities in a fast-paced complex environment.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
The following criterion is desired:
• Demonstrated labour relations experience in the public sector.
Duties:
The Director of Negotiation Services provides leadership and direction in the provision of a complete range of labour relations services to government and a number of crown corporations and government-funded agencies. This includes direct involvement in collective bargaining, contract administration and labour relations consultation and providing leadership to staff and functional direction to all levels of management with respect to all labour relations activities in government.
