Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have:
Several years experience in the building operation and maintenance environment.
Strong knowledge and ability to apply Building and Fire Codes.
Experience working with manual and power tools such as saws, drills, etc.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
The ability to work independently.
Excellent team work skills.
Knowledge of safe work practices, procedures and related regulations is desired.
The following are conditions of employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Must possess a Journeyman Carpenter Red Seal certificate.
Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
A satisfactory security check including a Criminal Record check and a Child Abuse Registry check.
Must have the ability to travel within the District with occasional overnight stays; able to work outdoors; may be required to respond to after hours emergency calls and must be physically capable of performing the required activities of the position including working in a secure (correctional) environment.
Duties:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for performing duties at a journeyman level in the carpentry trade. Will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of building structures, roofs, walls, windows, doors, locksets, flooring, woodworking, cabinetry, furniture, etc. Ensures workshop and equipment are operated safely and properly maintained.
