Responsible for the implementation of safety procedures and programs designed to ensure regulatory compliance and the minimization of industrial injuries and illnesses, worker’s compensation costs, property damage and general liability losses at the Fort Saskatchewan plant. Ensures plant is adhering to environmental regulations, laws, policies, and procedures. Responsible for air, water, land and any other environmental issues at the plant.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Safety:
• Develop and drive a zero incident safety culture, by providing a proactive safe work environment through an effective health and safety program.
• Implement safety procedures and programs designed to ensure regulatory compliance and the minimization of industrial injuries and illnesses, worker’s compensation costs and property damage.
• Develop and deliver safety training for employees, contractors and visitors.
• Manage the facilities’ health and safety programs.
Environmental:
• Responsible for timely government reporting and keeping current with changes in government policies.
• Manage all environmental programs and work with environmental contractors.
• Ensure all environmental safety requirements are followed by employees and contractors.
.• Train, develop and evaluate all employees on environmental policy, procedures, and laws.
• Maintain adherence to divisional and corporate environmental policies and procedures.
.• Responsible for all Provincial &Federal environmental permit and for all plant environmental inspections by outside or governmental agencies.Required Competencies:
• Problem solve – Independently troubleshoot and resolve problems related to job tasks.

• Demonstrated communication skills when working within team.
• Possess a positive attitude and be adaptable/flexible to work demands.

• Strong relationship building and coaching skills.
• Ability to read and understand written manuals, drawings, work orders, Required Education / Experience:
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a related safety/environmental position.
• Completion of post-secondary education in a technical discipline/environmental science.
• University or College graduates from a recognized safety program will also be considered.
• Demonstrated capacity in a leadership and or management position.
• Knowledge of environmental control systems.
• Experience with environmental issues and interpretation of environmental laws.
• Demonstrated success in the application of safety standards, compliance and promotion of a safe working environment.
