As the Assistant Finance Manager, you will be based out of the Peace Region / Mclennan office, providing support to the Alberta Regional Finance Manager as well as other Regional Finance Managers with regard to policies, procedures and operational controls.
You will work closely with the Peace and Alberta Leadership teams and General Managers to ensure the financial integrity, risk management and profitability of the regions. You will also interact with many key stakeholders in the Winnipeg office on a daily basis including the Credit Manager and the Accounting Managers, to support our crop input and grain handling businesses. This role is viewed as a development role for a Regional Finance Manager.
Principal Accountabilities:
30% - You will lead your team by: interpreting and sharing P&L results, ensuring financial initiatives and tactics are in place. Use reporting tools to analyze financial data and bring financial solutions to the regional team. Anticipate questions and be the regional resource on PnL interpretation, providing sound advice on cost cutting, or revenue opportunities.
25% - Execute established standardized processes for the Peace Region (consisting of two Farm Service Group's in Mclennan and Rycroft, and two satellite locations in Manning and Fairview) and provide support for the Alberta Region. Ensure standardized commercial procedures are communicated, understood and implemented consistently. Accountable for ensuring standardized processes are documented and championed by regional staff and understanding sales initiatives and communicating the processes and goals. It is expected that there would be increased delegation of tactical monitoring at sites to the General Managers.
You will develop partnerships with General Managers and support them on how to understand and champion risk management.
20% - Understand and monitor key business measures for the region, and effect the change needed to ensure financial goals are met. Indentify, and take action to mitigate potential risks associated with business activities, processes and programs.
Through effective and efficient processes, ensure the regional strategy is in line with the BU's strategy, and is in place to meet the region's budget.
Ensure the financial initiatives and tactics are included in the regional business plan and ensure execution.
15% Support the Alberta Finance Manager with regards to policies, procedures and internal controls. This role may be required to travel to other regions to help support finance efforts (i.e VPAs, monitoring etc.).
5% - Support the Peace General Managers with hiring, training, coaching, performance and development. Be accountable for coaching the broader regional team in financial integrity and peak efficiency on all financial operations.
5% - Provide an environment that fosters a Customer First approach within the region. Be an advocate for the customer, and liaison between functional groups and Customer Service Administrators and Customer Service Coordinators to ensure tools are in place to create a great customer experience.
Skills:
Required:
Completion of a Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent combination of education and work experience
2+ years accounting experience
Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills
Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Strong business partnering skills
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to internal controls
Self motivated
Willing to relocate to the Peace Region
Good problem solving and analytic skills
Proficient in MS office, especially Excel
Good leadership skills
Ability to travel within region approximately 50% of time (may require occasional overnight trips)
Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada on a non-temporary basis
Preferred:
Strong knowledge of JDE, Agrosoft, Impromptu, Actuate, Microsoft Office Suite systems/processes
Accounting Designation
Knowledge of the Grain Industry
Motivated for continuous improvement
Supervisory Experience
3+ years accounting experience
