Grain Growers of Canada (GGC) is a national organization of farm and commodity associations, holding an interest in Canada’s grain industry, comprising grains, oilseeds, pulses and special crops sub-sectors.  Our mission and mandate is to pursue a policy environment that maximizes global competitiveness and to influence federal policy on behalf of independent Canadian grain farmers and their associations.   Currently we are seeking an:


EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Based in Ottawa, Ontario the Executive Director will lead the organization in its efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Canadian farmers domestically and internationally.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, your primary responsibilities will include:

    developing and executing a long term strategic plan, and managing operations of the GGC;
    building recognition and influence of the GGC with all political parties and government departments;
    actively representing the GGC’s interests through strategic government advocacy plans and responses to regulatory, legislation and policy issues that impact Canadian farmers;
    clearly communicating GGC’s mandate and vision to the membership, industry, government and consumers;
    working collaboratively in developing, liaising and managing strong relations with a broad range of industry, government and value chain partners domestically and internationally with a view to strategic cooperation and information exchange;
    coordinating and / or undertaking policy and regulatory analysis in conjunction with other partner organizations to provide informed policy analysis to the Board of Directors and key influencers; and,
    acting as a major spokesperson on issues affecting Canadian farmers, and serving as the GGC’s lead representative on selected policy forums and committees / associations such as Cereals Canada, Canadian Agrifood Trade Alliance, Grains Round Table, and Canada Grains Council.

Qualifications include:
  •     post-secondary education in agriculture, economics, political science or business;
  •     proven ability to work and communicate with a Board of Directors;
  •     demonstrated experience in government relations with ability to work with all political parties;
  •     thorough knowledge and understanding of regulatory legislative processes and government mandate;
  •     ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with farmers and farm organizations;
  •     experience in strategic business planning and implementation;
  •     demonstrated ability to develop and manage operating budgets;
  •     significant collaborator and team player; ability to facilitate and manage relationships and sensitive issues with people or groups having varying interests and opinions;
  •     excellent written, presentation and speaking skills;
  •     possess strong listening skills, goodjudgement, andhigh ethics; and,
  •     willingness to travel within Canada and internationally when required.
