As a Regional Agrologist, you will be a key member of our network of professional agrologists, which promotes environmentally sustainable agriculture and food production. The Regional Agrologist Network of the Sustainable Agriculture Management Branch is comprised of Coast, and Interior regions. The regions focus on environmental sustainability and health (land, air and water stewardship, access to resources); economic growth and strength (new enterprises, profitability, self-reliance, risk management and assisting First Nations); and health and social wellbeing (strengthening farming, plant health, healthy diets).
The Regional Agrologist is one of eleven positions located in the Interior Region and works closely with staff in other branches, other ministries, local governments and with counterparts in other governments and agencies.The Regional Agrologist is the key position providing Ministry support to the North Central BC, specifically Highway 16 East, East of Vanderhoof, with accountabilities that include agriculture program delivery, especially Strengthening Farming, (local government planning, bylaw development, supporting agriculture advisory committees, farm practice complaints and issue management); supporting local industry development, and collection of regional intelligence; and promoting a stewardship ethic within the agriculture sector to build upon agriculture’s social currency which enables continued access to land and water for agriculture.
An effective communicator with a collaborative approach, the Regional Agrologist takes the lead in developing agreement in contentious environments. This includes leading the ministry in participating in and influencing the outcome of strategic land use planning, crown and private land use policies, analysis of the impact of other resource developments, conflict resolution related to land uses and farm practices, and objective/standard setting and management programs on issues that are sub-regional, regional and/or provincial in scope. In order for applicants to be considered for this position, their resume must clearly demonstrate that they have the following:
Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or a related science, preferably specializing in livestock, plant or soils management plus 5 years professional experience; OR,
Masters Degree in Agriculture or a related science plus 3 years professional experience.
Registration as a Professional Agrologist with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists or eligible for full registration immediately upon employment with the ministry.
Valid British Columbia Class 5 drivers’ license.
