Description:
The mandate of Internal Audit (IA) is to provide independent and objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the CIBC Group of Companies (CIBC) operations. Internal Audit assists CIBC in accomplishing its goals by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.
Internal Audit provides these services for the Audit Committee and Senior Management by performing independent assessments of risk management, internal controls, operating efficiency systems, and governance processes guided by professional internal auditing and other applicable standards.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Audit Manager will provide leadership while directing multi-skilled audit teams on audits of various size and complexity. They will act as an individual contributor with specific technical expertise on large and complex audits, carry out specific assignments for risk-focused audits of various business processes, and provide advice to senior and executive management on designing, implementing and maintaining internal controls. This individual will promote compliance with CIBC policies and procedures, standards, guidelines, and relevant legislation. They will identify internal control weaknesses, and advise clients of best practices.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Plan, execute and manage audit assignments of the Wealth Management businesses. These audits will typically involve several business processes or business lines that may operate at a single or multiple locations.
Work effectively with audit management and identify significant risks, control or operational weaknesses which may prevent CIBC or one of its subsidiaries from meeting its objectives.
Drive audit reporting by identifying significant business control weaknesses, and objectively assess the severity and materiality of the issues and their potential impact on the business. Work with business management to develop action plans to ensure recommendations provide realistic and workable solutions that mitigate risk and long term exposure.
Act as a champion for audit quality, coaching others relative to audit documentation expectations and sampling standards.
Contribute to developing the annual audit plan by identifying the planning needs, assigning resources, budgeting, to provide coverage for Wealth Management clients. The plan may cut across CIBC business lines and processes, and will consider interdependencies using an end-to-end approach.
Advance the use of data analytics across the Wealth Management portfolio, respectfully challenging current practices with the goal of improving audit effectiveness.
Provide advice to clients on the design and implementation of internal controls at the business process or managerial level, while recognizing IA’s need to remain independent.
Update status and follow up of deficiencies arising from audits managed. Identify deficiencies that require Audit Executive attention and escalation where agreed upon action plans are not met.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
This job collaborates with peers both inside and outside Internal Audit when identifying, discussing and resolving business issues. This job interacts on a regular basis with positions within Compliance and Retail Markets’ Integrated Business Control Services.
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Qualifications:
The business knowledge and experience required for this position is aligned to an individual who has experience in the financial services sector with a focus on Wealth Management businesses and the related regulations.
Comprehensive knowledge of auditing practices, processes, standards, techniques, procedures and principles sufficient to interpret complex concepts, apply them and explain them to others.
Undergraduate degree combined with an auditing or accounting designation (CA, CPA, CIA, CMA, CGA) or a post-graduate business degree (MBA) is preferred.
Refined relationship management and negotiation skills with ability to influence others to resolve differences of opinion.
Strong leadership and people management skills for motivating, directing audit staff in performing focused, quality audits. Ability to deal with audit staff having a variety of technical specialities.
Well-developed verbal and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with executives. Skill in clearly and concisely documenting systems, processes, and procedures is required. Ability to gather, synthesize, organize and interpret data or information, and formulate appropriate conclusions and insights is necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS
On a regular basis, you will be required to travel. Travel demand will average about 30% of the time.
