This is environmental technical, inspectional, regulatory and enforcement work. An incumbent of this class assists a superior in the organization and development of environmental programs and policies related to such matters as air quality, drinking water, storm water, noise, contaminated sites, in-stream works, development applications, waste management and diversion, and inspections of industrial/commercial operations. An incumbent has extensive contact with representatives of senior government and the private sector and with local environmental groups; provides guidance and work direction to more junior staff and assists with more complex investigations and projects. Considerable independent judgement and action are exercised on the majority of assignments and the incumbent works under minimal supervision during the absence of a superior. Work performance is reviewed by a superior for effectiveness and conformance with applicable policies, guidelines and legislative requirements.

A Bachelor of Science Degree (major in biology, ecology or a related discipline) along with sound related experience is required or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Excellent communication skills are needed along with the ability to use computer software related to the work. Experience in a municipal setting would be beneficial. Additionally, this position will participate in “on call” duties. A valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers License is required.
