The Public Trustee of Manitoba is a provincial government Special Operating Agency that manages and protects the affairs of Manitobans who are unable to do so themselves and have no one else willing or able to act. This includes mentally incompetent and vulnerable adults, deceased estates, and children.
Qualifications:
Essential:
• Formal accounting education with experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Demonstrated financial management experience including management of complex financial accounting systems.
• Experience with the review and development of policies and procedures.
• Supervisory/management experience in an accounting environment.
• Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to work independently.
• Excellent decision making and analytical skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize assignments and work under time constraints to meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including proficiency in Excel.
Asset:
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Income Tax Act.
• Knowledge/experience in the areas of income tax and investments.
• Experience with trust and estate accounting.
Duties:
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Accountant supervises, manages and controls accounting systems of the Public Trustee and provides expert advice to the Public Trustee and staff on financial management issues related to trust and estate management. The Senior Accountant oversees staff responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations including receivables, payables, real estate, investments, interest allocation, taxes, account opening and closures, deceased transfers, fee reversals and chattels. The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring all monthly reconciliation reports and audit batch reports are completed on a timely basis and continuously monitors internal controls and verifies files for vault. The Senior Accountant prepares annual costing analysis and assists in the preparation of Treasury Board submissions.
