JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Team Lead for Drilling and completions, the Senior Drilling Engineer will perform all aspects of well design including; Casing and Tubing Design, Mud Systems, Fluid Hydraulics, Primary and Remedial Cementing, Specialized Technical Software for tubular design and effect improvements in drilling efficacy.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Must be proficient with technical software, specifically related to drilling engineering e.g. stresscheck
For each well, confirm casing/tubing stress analysis, mud/hydraulics programs, cementing program, collision avoidance criteria
Prepare Drilling Program, Basis of Design, ADW and other special operations programs as required in the course of the operation
Steward to the recently implemented Well Delivery Model for Suncor including multi discipline peer reviews and post well reviews
Prepare End of Well Report which details cost analysis, operation analysis and provides recommendations for continuous improvement
Prepare technical specifications to be used in tenders for materials, services and equipment used in the drilling operations
Stays abreast of current technology and Best Practices within and industry and recommend the application of new technology
Prepare management of change for drilling programs as needed
Communicate regularly with the cross discipline members of the NAO Team on progression, lessons learned cost and efficiency improvements as well as investigation on operational setbacks
Mentor junior staff
Participate in cross company technical forums on drilling and completion technology

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Physical Science or Mathematics with 10 or more years of experience
The preferred candidate will be a registered Professional Engineer with APEGA
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Word & Excel as well as casing design software such as Stresscheck or equivalent
Service company or oil company drilling or completions operations experience preferred
Field supervisor experience will be an asset

Skills and Knowledge:

Excellent interpersonal skills – must be able to communicate at all levels and work in a team environment
