Night Foreman(City of Regina)- Career opportunity in Canada

This position is required to supervise the routine servicing of the Transit bus fleet. This position reports to the Manager of Transit Fleet Maintenance.

*Note: (1) Must possess a valid Class 5A Driver’s License with an air-brake endorsement and submit a Driving Abstract. (2) Successful candidates will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check. (3) Will be required to work non-standard/evening shifts.

Typical duties include:

  •     Ensure security of cash forms and fareboxes during the changing process and proper recordkeeping associated with this task.
  •     Assumes responsibility for vehicle fuelling, checking and ensuring that all vehicle fluid levels are maintained; routine inspection of all vehicle lights, doors, steps, tires, wheels, windshield wipers and other auxiliary equipment.
  •     Ensure that the interior of coaches are cleaned, dusted and vacuumed, and ensures that the exterior of buses are washed nightly.
  •     Assign coaches and completes floor plan for the following day’s route assignments.
  •     Assign work as may be required including vehicle change offs, minor mechanical repairs, the washing of bus interiors, and minor building maintenance tasks, etc.
  •     Analyze coach defects and determines the urgency of repair for following day work schedules.
  •     Identifies malfunctions of equipment used in night servicing and takes corrective measures when required.
  •     Responsible for securing the building at the end of each shift.
  •     Ensure that required maintenance data is forwarded to the Supervisor of Maintenance and Equipment on a timely, consistent and accurate basis.
  •     Perform related work as required.

Candidates will be screened on the following criteria:
  •     Grade twelve (12) coupled with first year Heavy Duty or Truck & Transport Mechanical Repair certificate.
  •     One (1) to three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
  •     Knowledge of heavy duty diesel-powered equipment, heavy duty automatic transmissions, and various vehicular electrical and electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic components.
  •     Ability to effectively diagnose vehicle minor defects.
  •     Ability to effectively supervise and maintain co-operative and harmonious work relationships with subordinate staff.
  •     Ability to effectively operate a computer and perform computer tasks.
  •     Ability to express ideas effectively in oral and/or written form.
  •     Ability to follow all safety regulations as set out in the section or department assigned.
  •     In addition, the successful candidate must become familiar with, comply and enforce all sections of the City ofRegina Occupational Healthand Safety Manual, which are relevant to the position.
