Cargill Value Added Meats – Foodservice operates a chicken processing plant in London, ON, a hatchery in Jarvis, ON, and ground beef processing facilities in Brampton, ON, and Spruce Grove, AB employing approximately 1200 employees.
Reporting to the Managing Director, and as part of the Leadership Team, you will be responsible to help define and implement our sustainability strategy. Cargill Value Added Meats – Foodservice is the exclusive supplier of beef and chicken to McDonald’s Canada; this position will continue to align our London and Jarvis, Ontario and Spruce Grove Alberta facilities, as well as our agricultural supply chains with the goal of delivering verified sustainable products to McDonald’s within the next two years. You will require strong analytical abilities as we define sustainability goals and metrics with our customer. You will also require excellent people skills to allow the person to work across Cargill, McDonald’s, the farming community, and Non-governmental organizations (NGO’s). Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary to ensure that we can tell our story effectively within our organizations and to the broader public.
Principal Accountabilities:
30% Consult with McDonald’s, other businesses within Cargill, and key stakeholders to formulate sustainability strategies for the business. These strategies should take into account emerging McDonald’s guidelines as well as Cargill corporate goals. 30% Develop and deploy key performance indicators across the chicken and beef supply chains. While the business already has measures and targets for resource efficiency, we need to extend our metrics to include parts of the supply chain beyond our facilities. In developing these measures, we need to work closely with related businesses in Cargill, McDonald’s and the NGO community. 30% Develop action plans for engaging Cargill stakeholders and agricultural supply chains around the goal of sustainability. While we have begun to create some action plans, we need to increase the speed and visibility of these initiatives. 10% Work with Cargill and McDonald’s communications teams to more effectively tell the story of sustainability at Cargill and in the McDonald’s supply chain.
Skills:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in sustainability or a related field
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated leadership skills – ability to inspire, motivate, educate and empower others in a positive and productive team environment
Ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels
20-30% travel will be required between facilities in Canada and the United States
Preferred:
Graduate Degree
Familiarity with agriculture and/or food industry
Familiarity with NGO sector
