The BC SPCA has a 118 years young and growing stronger every year. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals. Through our 41 locations throughout B.C. and provincial office in Vancouver, the BC SPCA provides a wide range of services and programs to help nearly 29,000 animals in distress and need each year.

We are currently recruiting for a Manager, Animal Health to work from our Provincial Office in Vancouver. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the successful candidate for this full-time position will be responsible for the development, implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of animal health programs throughout all BC SPCA shelters. This role is responsible for providing timely support, guidance, education and assistance to all departments, staff and volunteers on areas related to animal health, shelter sanitation, and disease prevention and control.

Knowledge & Qualifications / Skills required:
    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, or equivalent

    Member in good standing with the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia

    Graduate of a recognized shelter medicine program, or significant shelter medicine experience

    Must have a genuine compassion for animals and sound knowledge of the Five Freedoms

    Broad understanding of animal welfare issues and the not-for-profit sector

    Strong network, relationship builder and communicator with experience collaborating with diverse work teams

    Able to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers

    Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet priorities and to work within a demanding work schedules with minimal supervision

    Excellent presentation and public speaking skills

    Travel throughout the province required – must have a valid BC Drivers License

    Strong Computer skills – Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, internet/email
