Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Hydrologic Applications and Research Engineer located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Qualifications:
The following criteria are essential to the position:
    A Bachelor of Science in Engineering combined with related work experience in a water resource engineering related field.
    Experience and knowledge in water resources in the areas of prairie hydrology, hydraulics, and statistics.
    Strong organizational and project management skills including the ability to work on several complex tasks simultaneously, and prioritize workloads to meet strict deadlines.
    Experience using computer software to analyze and solve water resource problems and manage large databases, including hydrologic models, statistical analysis software, GIS, Microsoft Office Suite, and other equivalent software.
    Strong written communication skills, including experience writing technical reports, correspondence, and other formal documents.
    Strong verbal communication skills including experience communicating technical information, and giving presentations.
    Experience developing innovative tools, databases, and methodologies to improve and develop new methods for hydrologic investigations.
    Experience performing advanced hydrologic investigations for water resource management activities and water development proposals.
    Strong interpersonal skills including experience working with a variety of stakeholders.

The following criteria are desired:
    Experience supervising staff, including planning, organizing, and directing staff, and providing guidance and performance management.

The following are conditions of employment:
    Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
    Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence.
    Must be willing and able to travel throughout the Province of Manitoba.
    Must be physically able of performing the duties of the position including working on rough terrain, and possibly in adverse weather conditions.
    Must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of Manitoba.

Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of the Surface Water Management Section, the Hydrologic Applications and Research Engineer is the Department’s specialist responsible for providing a wide range of strong, scientifically-based technical and scientific surface water hydrologic support to other branches and sections in the Department and to other Departments. The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing and directing technical staff engaged in applying hydrologic standards and providing hydrologic inputs for supporting engineering design of various water-works in the province. The incumbent performs advanced scientifically-based hydrologic investigations for water resource management activities and water development proposals and develops technical specifications and standards related to engineering hydrology. The incumbent also undertakes cutting edge research and advanced technical studies to develop innovative tools related to hydrology. The incumbent will also communicate the findings of hydrologic investigations through technical reports and presentations and provide advice on policy matters related to their area of expertise. The incumbent will also assist with the preparation of Treasury Board submission, related financial documents, and briefing materials for senior management.
