Function/Purpose:
This position is responsible for providing first line of customer service to clients attending the RCMP detachment(s). This involves receiving, recording and processing complaints and motor vehicle accident reports. Provide assistance to the public, various agencies and government departments through the release of authorized information. Assist in Sign-ins and Criminal Record Checks. Enter, query and modify a range of information on the following computer systems: Police Information Retrieval System (PIRS), Police Reporting and Occurrence System (PROS), Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and the Computerized Integrated Information and Dispatch System (CIIDS). Responsible for composing, compiling and generating court and legal documents. Maintains operational and administrative filing system. This position is also responsible for cashier services related to receiving, processing and balancing all payments to The City of Red Deer for revenue invoices and fines issued by City departments. It is responsible for maintaining cash custody and security and for answering citizen general inquiries. In this role, excellent customer interactions, accuracy and attention to detail is critical as errors could have a negative impact on customer perceptions and relations. This could also impact municipal revenues.
Job Requirements:
Grade 12 diploma supplemented with completion of.
Plus one (1) year post-secondary education in the Secretarial Sciences and college level accounting course.
Three (3) years’ experience in a police, legal or Court setting, to provide thorough knowledge of Police and Court procedures. A good working knowledge of the Criminal Code, Federal and Provincial Statutes, Municipal Bylaws and related documents is required.
Must be able to accurately type a minimum of 45 wpm on a computer keyboard.
Must be able to be appointed as a Special Constable and Pass stringent RCMP Security Clearance
Must be able to successfully complete PROS, CPIC and CIIDS Users Courses.
Above average communication skills both written and oral to deal effectively with the public. (Possess excellent interpersonal skills)
Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision
Ability to function under stressful situations due to constant interruptions
Capable of gathering, analyzing and applying information using good judgment when making decisions
Must be able to work shifts
Must possess above average organizational ability
The following experience would be considered an asset:
Previous experience with computer programs similar to JDEdwards, Bellamy, and Geoware, or Diamond Utilities software
Knowledge of accounts receivable, utility and collections theory/procedures and ability to apply legislation and policy (MGA, City policies and bylaws, GST) to business practices
Formal training in Violence in the Workplace, Dealing with Difficult Customers
Previous experience of GST, MGA, City Policies and Bylaws in a municipal setting
Exposure to MS Excel and experience with MS Word and Outlook
SPECIFIC DEMANDS ON THE JOB:
Subject to the risk of personal injury when dealing with irate, rude, aggressive and upset public.
Incumbents subject to excessive eye, neck, wrist, and lower back strain.
Subject to medium physical effort from constant bending and kneeling when filing.
