Primary Focus:
As the first level of engineering specialist this job provides senior level direction and assistance and broad and/or deep technical expertise in the field of facility/terminal hydraulic design throughout the planning, design, procurement, construction and start-up stages of the project lifecycle within the Major Projects Business Unit.
Responsibilities:
Provides complex engineering related technical support and leadership to Major Projects and Project Development activities by:
Collaborate with Project Development Engineers and stakeholders to achieve optimized designs, with consideration given to operational and capital cost factors.
Develop comprehensive facility/terminal designs that meet or exceed project requirements while minimizing capital and/or operating costs. Collaborate with key project stakeholders to ensure that design details are addressed in a thorough manner.
Ensure delivery of hydraulic designs and alternatives are provided to Project Development Engineers in a timely manner.
Adhere to all internal and external standards and following proper engineering practices.
Initiate meetings, correspondence and discussion with appropriate project resources when project scope / schedule / cost requires clarification.
Investigate and ensure that accurate project data is acquired prior to the analysis and design of the proposed facility.
Identify project scenarios that require transient modeling to ensure proposed pipeline designs are operable under transient conditions. Lead initiatives to execute the transient modeling activities.
Develop appropriate documentation outlining design parameters, assumptions and results such that project scope can be easily communicated to other relevant departments within Enbridge.
Provide support to Project Execution teams with final pump selection and hydraulic modeling to ensure that the project requirements are met.
Provide technical assistance to Engineering and Operations Departments to resolve operating problems or to establish best operating practices.
Maintain and enhance knowledge level with current hydraulic simulation and pipeline design technologies. Maintain proficiency with the use of in-house and industry recognized hydraulic simulation tools.
Qualifications:
Engineering degree in an applicable discipline.
P.Eng designation.
Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in engineering design and project management directly related to liquid hydrocarbon facility design in the oil and gas industry.
Previous terminal/facility piping design experience would be considered a significant asset.
Knowledge of liquids and gas facility hydraulic modeling and design would be considered a significant asset.
Knowledge of hydraulic modeling software such as Stoner Pipeline Simulator, PipeFlo, Pipeline Studio, and/or AFT Fathom/Impulse would be considered a significant asset.
Aptitude and communications skills related to leading and acting independently as a senior level engineer.
Proven interpersonal, communication, negotiation and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to be innovative, initiate and manage change.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
